Data collection from machines

The basis of quality information for both MES systems and ERP systems is quality data collection, which is based on online connection and monitoring of machines and production lines. For this purpose, an own full-fledged solution was created based on communication with machine control systems and reading data from sensors and electrical circuits using modern communication protocols and IoT technologies, as well as the possibility of connecting older machines and production technologies with older systems or electrical installations.

Data collection from machines

The IMTS (Independent Mobile Tracking System) module provides comprehensive and reliable data collection primarily for the Act-in MES system, but it is also successfully used as an independent source of data from machines for ERP systems or other 3rd party production information systems that can use both raw data as well as processed data and standardized technologies MQTT, MT Connect, OPC server, etc.

The IMTS module enables connection to all types of production machines and equipment. It contains technologies, communication modules and drivers for most commonly used PLC types from manufacturers such as Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Omron, Mitsubishi, Panasonic, ABB, B&R, Schneider or Beckhoff, and at the same time allows easy expansion and addition of other types. In the case of machines and equipment that do not have a corresponding PLC or available ports, the IMTS module allows machines to be connected via electrical signals. It also allows connecting additional sensors or loading data from other sources such as databases or structured files.

In the field of CNC machine engineering and monitoring, IMTS communication capabilities are used to great advantage with CNC machine control systems such as Sinumerik, Heidenhain, Fanuc, Mazatrol and others. In the area of plastics production and injection molding monitoring, typical protocols from the Euromap group or standardized OPC servers are advantageously used.

IMTS can send data directly from the machines to the data storage on the server, or it can arrange for its initial processing in the form of Edge Computing in an optional industrial unit located in the production operation near the machines and send only the processed data to the data storage, thereby significantly reducing the data sent and stored volumes, which is very convenient especially for Cloud storage. This unit also protects against the loss of production data in the event of server, network or cloud storage outages by buffering it and sending it to the data store after server connectivity or functionality is restored.
